I love how this ad subtly sells to Trump supporters.

At first glance, it appears to be just another generic Americana coin set with George Washington and other great American leaders. If you’re not interested in coins, you wouldn’t pay attention to it. Upon closer inspection, Donald Trump is included in the set.

The copy states that the set honors “10 of our greatest presidents from George Washington to Donald Trump.” That phrase is going to get a lot of Trump supporters chomping at the bit to buy this. They’ve also thrown in a free American flag as a gift with the purchase.

Visually, they have also designed the ad in such a way that it is similar to the emails that subscribers to Donald Trump’s email list.

The color gold resonates well with Trump supporters. The Trump Gold card was a promo that his PAC was running for about 3 weeks.

Some time after the Trump Gold Card, they switched to the Trump MVP. Notice the use of red buttons and the white text with the black backgrounds. Visually, these combinations appeal to the target demographic.

The takeaway: Design your ads after studying what resonates with your target market. You don’t need to (and shouldn’t) appeal to everyone to make a sale.
