A George Foreman Ad without George Foreman

George Foreman Grill

What’s interesting about this

Perhaps, George Foreman’s name is no longer synonymous with boxing. It may be a sign of the times and George Foreman is fading from our collective memory. George Foreman has transcended towards being an electric kitchen gadget that drains grease off of meat.

This ad is interesting in the fact that they no longer use George Foreman as an influencer. His likeness doesn’t feature at all on georgeforemancooking.com.

The image is clean and it shows what the Foreman grill does. The advertising copy is ironic because it is so boring. It raises a lot of questions. What awards has it actually won? How can a grill help? Have the marketers been watching too many early pandemic ads?

This campaign, however, does not align with my direct marketing philosophy. When I saw it, I was not located in the United States nor was I looking for electric cooking appliances on online. There was no way these marketers were going to convert me at all. That means that there’s going to be a lot of wasted ad spend and that might be okay for some marketers. That’s just not how I do things.

I miss George’s smiling face and crazy signature in the marketing materials.
